The Dog On Inn is top notch dog boarding facility serving the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo areas. We are here to offer a fun, safe, and comfortable place for your dog to stay. Some dogs stay with us while their owners are out of town on vacation, others during house renovations or when their family is moving, and others come to visit when there are going to be a lot of visitors in their house. No matter the reason, we are happy to care for your dog. All breeds, all sizes, all ages are welcome. They can stay for a couple hours to play, visit for a long weekend, or some dogs even stay with us for a month at time. Once the dogs have been here for a couple of days, they settle right into our routine.
We have seven fenced in play yards! This means that all of the dogs get plenty of outdoor playtime, either individually or in small groups. With that many yards, there is less time spent waiting your turn and more time running around and playing. We don't charge any extra for playtime; going outside at least four times a day is included in our standard boarding rate. Each yard has shade- either natural shading from trees or a shade sail. There are balls, toys and nylabones for the dogs to play with. We've even added loungers for the pups that would prefer to just relax. Play ramps provide a higher vantage point for the dogs that like to watch the world go by. The ramps also offer endless hours of entertainment and fun as dog run over, around and under playing chase with their friends.
The kiddie pools are very popular in the hot summer months! Dogs can splash and play in the water, lounge by the pool, or get a drink out of the extra large water bowl.
Time spent out doors is often weather dependent. If it's raining, too cold or too hot, the dogs can just go outside, potty and then come back in. On days with nicer weather, dogs can spend most of the day outside. Everyone is inside at night. Dogs have their own indoor/outdoor run in our heated and air conditioned building.
Outdoor play groups are divided up by size of the dogs and their play style. Little dogs go out to play with other little dogs; big dogs play with other big dogs. Dogs that like to play chase or wrestle get along well together, whereas some dogs just like to sniff and walk around with their companions. Most of the dogs having been coming here for years and we get to know them and who they like to play with. New dogs are gradually integrated, usually going out by themselves at first and then slowly meeting new dogs one on one. Typically our play groups for the big dogs consist of three to five dogs; the small dog groups can have as many as seven or eight. Bullying is not tolerated as we want all the dogs to feel comfortable and enjoy their stay here. If a dog isn't playing nice, he will just have to find a group where he fits in better or go out alone. Any dog showing aggression towards other dogs will be outside alone only.
If you dog does not get along with others, that's perfectly okay! Your dog can go outside by himself and will still get just as much time outdoors. We understand that some dogs just like people better than other dogs.
This kennel was originally founded in 1967 as Riverview Boarding Kennels. It was a boarding kennel, Rottweiler breeding facility and also a pet cemetery. It became the Dog On Inn under the ownership of Sue Duff in 2003. The Inn is now owned and operated by Kristin Bright. Kristin grew up loving animals, has a degree in Zoology for Michigan Sate, and spends her free time training her own dogs in various sports. She's also very involved in dog rescue. Kristin has three dogs of her own and you'll see them in the office at the kennel.
